Gait Studies in Low Resolution

Jim Campbell has developed a series of figurative sequences for the facade. Changing each day, these will depict people performing different movements in various situations. The visual effects of the presentation are enhanced by a tinted perspex screen through which passers-by can observe the artist’s work. When viewed through this screen, which is installed at the southern exit of the Potsdamer Platz S-Bahn station, the facade pixels merge to form a homogenous, slightly blurred image. For several years Jim Campbell has been working with highly pixelated images, playing with the aesthetic contrasts between low resolution and the diffusion of electronic images. His works are characterised by faultless interaction between technologies and their visual effects.
